This Color Is Back in a Fresh, New Way!

Have you spotted it yet? The color that is making it's way back "in"? Some of you are always in love with this color, and some of you have erased it from your homes by now in favor of another. Have you noticed? I'm predicting it's gonna be "back" in a big way soon.

What am I talking about? Why, R E D, of course! Don't believe me? Take a look around!!

The neutral backdrop that we've all created in our homes is perfect for POPS of R E D used as an accent color! Red looks great & classic & fresh with creamy whites, but is also lovely with sand, tobacco, greys, blues, greens..... the list could go on!

And don't expect anyone to go painting red walls anytime again soon (still too reminiscent of the dining rooms of the last decade), but look for it in little touches. Pillows, books, a throw, fruit, flowers, fabrics, art, even a kitchen island! (Have you seen the HGTV Green Home 2010? They used a red countertop on their island....too much for the average homeowner, but there's that RED again!)

Good-bye stuffy, super traditional......HELLO FRESH, FUN, & GORGEOUS!

The red fabric on this white painted bench looks so fresh and cheery against the neutral, sandy painted walls. Paired with another accent of apple green and who wouldn't love this spot in their home?

Love love love love love red paired with gray here! (Can you tell I like this? LOL!!)

Red looks incredible paired with the soft blues and watery greens that we all adore right now, too! That makes it perfect to use as an accent color!

(Is this not the cutest artwork for a kid's room or playroom? How fun!)

Take away the red pillows from this room above and you have a nice room, but add that pop of color and the feel of the room goes from "lovely but ok" to.... "Wow, that's a great space!"

Neutral backgrounds (walls, major furniture pieces) mixed with updated colors as accents gives you an affordable & fun way to change the look of your home. Or even your outdoor spaces!

Again, paired with that blue....love that!

I'm planning to add some red accents in my home for fun!

What do you think of R E D?

How would you use red in your home?

Leave a little comment to say "Hello!" and let us know!

Red is my color!!! Although I made the mistake of painting my kitchen red in my last house. It was way to over powering. Now I stick to red as an accent. Red pillows, curtains, frames etc... My favorite red thing I have done is my hutch. Check it out:

The red hutch is perfect tucked into a corner of my dinning room redo.

I love red!!! We are in the process of remodeling my kitchen. I'll be doing a cottage style with white bead board, cheery yellow walls and red accents. We already purchased a beautiful red pendent light and it looks beautiful! I can't wait until it's finished! =) Fun post!

Oh, honey, red was never OUT at my house. Maybe because I'm a redhead and all three of children are redheads? No, I've just always loved it. And it is the perfect counterpoint to all the greens and browns I've got going on around here.

My most treasured of all my accessories is a beautiful red pitcher that was a wedding gift to my mother--fifty years ago! I wrote a post about how I decorated my kitchen around that pitcher: http://impartinggrace-richella.blogspot.com/2009/10/diy-decorating.html . I'd be honored if you wanted to read about it!

Have a great day!

I adore red. In fact, I have been doing red for the last three years. Now I want to find a new colour since it's so "in" now! LOL

LOVE red. I have red checks in the kitchen and in our family room, red microfiber couches!!1 I love the look and get comments all the time! :) Since I have the red couches I do tone it down with lots of antique gold frames, black cross-stich pillows and white accents everywhere. :) Yay for Red!!!

I loooove RED!!! And I do have a red dining room! ;-) It is a deep red and I still love it. Most of my other rooms have at least some red accent in them!

Stacey, I had to laugh a little because I guess my friends and I didn't realize that red was out. Oh well. At least I'm still in. :)

I think I prefer orange, but red does look good as an accent color; after all there's a lot of red in nautical signal flag designs!

We are a very patriotic family with three redheads, so red has always been at home in our home. Those dated red dining rooms...I still have mine. I've had it red for almost five years now, and am so ready to neutralize it to go with the rest of the walls.

I enjoy your blog!

I am definitely a red lover! :) Love those pics. I painted my kitchen red a couple of years ago and though I've been itchin' to lighten up a little bit, it is still really "me". I'm always drawn to it...especially those little "pops"... It just says, "Wow, look at me, aren't I pretty?!" :) And I'd answer..."Yes, my lovely red...you definitely are." ;)

I like a 'lil red here and there. My dining room walls have been red for a long time though, and I think I'm ready for a change. Love the cute little tree!

It's so funny because we just moved from a house where I had painted the kitchen a terra cotta red & the living room a deep bold red...and I LOVED them! But after 5 years (and we had a red kitchen for 8 years in our previous house) I was ready for a change...here we have more neutrals, tans, creams & blues, but I love, LOVE red accents still! I don't think I will ever not have some red in my house. It always has been one of my favorite colors & I love the way it POPS! And I agree with several of the previous comments...the aqua/red combination is my FAVE right now!

My son Carson has always said red is his favorite color. So red is a nice accent in the room he and younger brother, Christian, share.

I've always loved red! My house is mostly red and white. I did have red kitchen walls at one time but now they're kiwi green. Even if red were "out" I'd still have lots of it because I love that color!

I have a red study in my house and have been debating painting or leaving it alone. I love red as an accent color so I am trying figur eout a way to work with it - perhaps making everything else white.
