Thinking Outside The Vase?!

I got an award today from Ms. Sandy Toes at Shell in Your Pocket!! THANK YOU, Sandy Toes!! Y'all should really check out her lovely blog! I love reading it, and seeing her sweet little moppets, and her decorating ideas -- she did a great, inexpensive re-do of her kids bathroom -- go take a look!

I'd like to pass this award on to:

Jen at Balancing Beauty and Bedlam--Jen has a passion for homemaking, hospitality, saving $$, being a great mom and finding the beauty in things...all amist the crazy bedlam of everyday life! I just love reading her blog and would love to meet her in "real life" someday! Go & get ready to love this blog!

ALVN at WhisperWood Cottage--I met ALVN through the junk community online, and met her in person at Junk Bonanza! She is so sweet and fun, and I just know we'd be junkin' together on the weekends if only we weren't half a country apart! :) Check out her blog to see her amazing garage sale finds and read about her junking adventures!!

Dawn at The Feathered Nest --*sigh* I want to be Dawn when I grow up! I literally sigh everytime I click on her blog! She is an amazing artist, and has such lovely things to share!! Dawn loves birds as much as I do, and often has pretty art for us to click on and use ourselves :)! Thanks, Dawn! She also has her work featured in Somerset Life, and has online tutorials for sale for all of us artist wanna-be's like me!!! Go get a cup of tea, and enjoy the loveliness!

Ok...what's this picture of, you ask? Why is it so...empty...bare...dare I say...plain?!
Well, dear friends, today I'd like to do something to stretch your decorating and budgeting imaginations! Get you to think outside the "vase", so to speak!!
:)
I try to buy things only if I know several ways or several places to use it! The reasons: It saves money to get lots of use out of something, plus I like to have lots of options since I change my decorating mind often :)!!
I got this "vase" at Wal-Mart, and there are quite a few ways to use this!!
Here's just 3: bouquet of gorgeous flowers, holding bath salts with a ribbon tied around, flipped upside-down to hold a platter on a buffet table!
There are tons of other ways to use this/decorate this up!
What would YOU do if this were yours???

Congratulations on your blog award!

I would put some fun colored stones or marbles in the bottom, put a ribbon around the top (maybe orange or brown) and fill it with snips of twigs with colored leaves still attached...

Thank you, Stacey! You are too sweet!!! We would certainly be junkin' together if we were in the same state (or even in the same region)! I would love, love, love it! In fact, I would love to find a big summer event by you...is the World's Longest Yard Sale (Hwy 127...Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky) relatively close? Even if it's not...let plan a trip!

Now, what would I do with this vase? Hmmm...here are some ideas...(1) I have a whole ton of vintage clothespins that would look great in this jar. (2) A grouping of black and white or sepia photos would also be fabulous. (3) The jar could be grouped with other glass pieces of various shapes and sizes for an elegant display.

Thanks again, Stacey! The award means a lot...especially coming from you! It is my very first blog award and I am truly honored!

Yea - you better believe we will meet in real life. Thanks for the sweet mention, and that is too funny that our posts are a perfect match today. I was thinking outside the "glass."

Oh, and I know your rendition will be so much better than mine - can't wait to see. I had so many good ideas running through my mind, but the thought of taking all the time to put them together for pictures was too overwhelming. Can't wait to see what others do.

I have three cute little glasses like that and I buy one bouquet of flowers and divide them up between the three...then line them up in the middle of my table. I love it, looks so cute, and not expensive at all! :)

I'd stick coffee grounds in it and slap some fake posies in there...nod kidding. That's what I did with mine. ;D A bouquet of twigs as Shanda mentioned would be lovely, too.

Thank you for visiting me today and for leaving a comment.

You asked about the barn star...my darling daughter gave it to me as a gift and I've never asked her where she got it...It's really a wonderfully rusty mess, which I love. I'll try to remember to ask her for you.

nod kidding? Okay, LOL!

I actually bought the taller ones from Walmart and filled the bottom with different sea shells, star fish and put a bouquet of those dried decorative stick things (what are they called?). Kind of went with a nautical theme in our bedroom! Love them.

Thank you for the kind words!!

MMM...I have to think about this..I would like you flip it and use it on a buffet table.

Put a tea candle in it...fill it with berries, nuts...fall stuff...a votive on my kitchen island with a ribbon tied in the middle :)

Have a great day!!! Sandy Toes

Hmmm...well I can't quite tell how wide it is. But after Thanksgiving, I would put snips of holly in it, fill it with water and float some pretty cream colored candles on it.

Mandi @ Sweetly Home said...

I would fill it halfway with salt and nestle a white candle inside. Or fill the bottom third with salt and then the rest with decorator rocks (those smooth, shiny perfect stones that you can purchase also at Walmart).

How about candy corns? :)

You could turn it upside down and epoxy a small little fat glass candleholder to it to use it as a more modern style cloche. With that you could put anything under it: a birdsnest, a picture, a mini vignette, cupcakes anything small really.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Tam

Since Christmas is around the corner......I would put different sizes & colors of balls in it or pine cones. I'm like you I like to have something that can be used several different ways. :)

Here's my ideas. I'd put in about an inch of Some pearls, buttons or beans, and then a small flash card inside or a photo, Like this.

Or fill with seasonal potpourrie, the chunky kind.

Congratulations on your award... it's well~deserved! And, I too like finding (inexpensive) treasures at Wal-Mart. I got an adorable pumpkin glass candy dish a few weeks ago that I LOVE.

My first time on your blog, but I love questions like this. :-) I see that someone beat me to the punch with the seashell idea. Since I live in Florida, that's what I would do. There's also beach glass. I collect that as well, and I have some I've found on the beach and other pieces I bought at a cute little shop. I've seen it at Wal-Mart, too.

I would also consider putting nuts in the container for the holidays with a nutcracker nearby, or if you have a sweet tooth, some peppermint candies or candy canes. If you did that, you could stripe the outside of the container with three red ribbons which could be removed later.

How about gold-beaded, silver-beaded, or red-beaded garlands? Or some type of fancy trifle for dessert? Or making round painted ornaments with your children and adding to them each year with the date on them? The possibilities are endless!

Thanks for letting me play. :-)

Candycanes all around the inner edge and pine and holly inside! With a bow tied on the outside middle. Has anyone said that yet?
