Welcome to my Sunroom! Today I'm joining the Nester for :

Today I'm sharing with you the cost of decorating my Sunroom!
I'm glad I have pictures of this room already, since it's all boxed up now, ready for our move :)!

This room really reflects how I decorate, with objects at all different price levels from FREE to more EXPENSIVE. I may have gotten some great deals on some things, but am not afraid to spend some money on items that I feel are worth it.

Let's get started Pricing My Space!

Barn Star: $50 -- I love this barn star! It is HUGE, and looks great hung high on the wall in this room! It was too similar to the wall color when I bought it (Duron's Tobacco Road is the color, BTW), so I spray painted it Heirloom White.

Couch and Chair: $FREE -- Broyhill furniture given to me for free from my sister when she was upgrading her own furniture! Yahoo!! I'm always happy to take free stuff! There's also a matching ottoman, not used in this room.

White Slipcovers: $FREE -- A Christmas gift from my parents. But if you love them, they are from Ballard Designs. I tend to ask for decorating stuff for gifts a lot! :) It really helps my budget!!

The Pillows: $??? -- I can't remember exactly what they would be....I bought the inserts from Pottery Barn (did you know that you can just buy inserts there without the pillow covers?) because they are a gloriously large size which I love! I made the covers myself with a remnant fabric, and the fringe trim came from a fabric store.

The Antique Scale & Cloche: $60 & $24 -- I lovelovelove this piece! Talk about a statement piece! The cloche miraculously fits the top of the scale perfectly! Underneath of it is a green depression glass plate that was $1 at a garage sale, and a rusty garden fairy that was $8. An antique French key hanging from the end was $8, and the nest greenery on top was only around $3 at Michael's.

Linden Glass Tray Table: $around 50 -- I paid only 1/2 price for this Southern Living at Home table when I hosted a party several years ago. I've used this in several rooms in several homes and it's great anywhere I put it!

Coffee Table: $200-something? It's a Broyhill table, and was discontinued, we got it at their NC warehouse for a good deal less than it retailed for.

Sisal Rug: $FREE -- again, a gift a couple of years ago. It's from Ballard Designs, if you're interested.

Black & White End Table: $22 -- From a flea market years ago! It's a sewing machine bottom, and a white chippy shabby painted top. Love this!! The birdhouse on it I bought from the artist at a different flea market for $50. It's huge, and an original!!

Other End Table: $??? -- Just a cheap plywood decorators table covered in white linens I already had.



Potting Bench: $55 -- From an antiques mall. It perfectly fits this little wall! The wire thingy I added to the backside was $16. The accessories on here have been in my collection from through the years, and I don't remember all the prices.

Vintage Mirror: $18 -- From Goodwill

Ceiling Tile Tin: $10 -- From flea market



Wood Architechtural Piece Over Door: $34 -- From flea market, and a favorite piece of mine!

$609++(for the little things I can't recall)

Pretty good for furnishing an entire room!!!

The Big Sunroom Makeover Reveal!

Whooo-hoo!!! Today's the "Big Reveal" for the Sunroom Makeover!

Above is the before pic, and below are LOTS of afters!! :)
(And I'm apologizing for the icky quality of the pics, it's just so overcast outside!)

Hubby lovingly painted the sunroom in Duron's Tobacco Road.
I had heard so many amazing things about it from Nester and others on the web, that I had to try it out! I'll admit that I freaked out at first, then wondered if I should go down a step to Plantation Beige, but now we really love it!

The new white slipcovers, yea!
And pillows that I made myself!!

Y'all were so interested in my antique French key, I added some more pics! It is the key to my "secret garden"!! This is my "garden room" after all!! :)

I love chalkboards, and these are some of my favorites!
The "menu" one below I got from JunkMarket tour at the Kane County Flea Market several years ago!
The menu hasn't changed in a couple years, it reminds me of the outdoor movie festivals we would host each year!!

My floral frog collection :)

The pillow fronts are the most gorgeous Martha Stewart Signature fabric. I got this as a remnant at a fabric store. There wasn't enough for the pillows, so I got some complementary sagey-mossy green fabric for the backs. It matches the "leaf" color in the fabric fronts, and also matches the distressed painted color of the coffee table and sisal rug border!

Look how the white is crisply set off by the rich neutral Tobacco Road paint color!

Sadie likes her "new room"! :) LOL

( We really wanted to put up bamboo roman shades as well, if you remember, but our windows would require a special order width, and since we plan to sell the house this year we decided to put that on hold. Painting was a LOT cheaper! )

Decisions, Decisions!

Ok, chickadees! I need some decorating advise!!

Remember this post here about making over my sunroom?! It's time to get started! I shared with you that I've chosen white duck slipcovers from Ballard Designs for my Christmas gift (which thanks to Santa coming early for my side of the family this year, we'll be getting Thanksgiving weekend! :).

And I've settled on bamboo roman blinds/shades from Bed Bath Beyond for the windows.

But here comes the part I need help with....

You like?!! :)

Would you recommend that I paint the walls or leave them as is???

If I paint them, I would use a very soft shade of sagey green.

Here's the dilemma:
I really like the current paint color...it's the same as the rest of my living spaces (I have an open floor plan). However, it's the same as the rest of my spaces!

I want to enhance the view of gardens and natural green space/wooded wetlands and woods.

and here's the big one:

There is a very good chance we'll be moving within the next year. Yes, again. Maybe I'll get into that in a later post. But for now, I would like your advise as to whether I should paint a neutral "color", or leave the neutral color it is now for a faster sale?! I would be competing with a lot of lovely, brand new homes in the area, and even though we've sold our homes VERY quickly before I need to step up my game on this one!


So, what should I do?! I could use some advise from all of you out there! There are some amazing decorators in blogland, and I need your advise!! :)

Sunroom -- Cottage Seating

If you've been reading my blog, you'll remember that we're going to be doing a makeover on my sunroom! You can see all of the before pics of the sunroom here.

Everyone wanted to know what I was planning to do, and I thought I'd reveal it a bit at a time! I will tell you that the furniture layout will stay the same, as I've just recently rearranged it. Sometimes I'll be asking you to vote for your decision on different decorating choices!

If you'll recall, I got the couch and chair for FREE from my sister when she was redecorating! I like the fabric okay, but I've always wanted a room with these:

Yummy, lovely, crisp and cottagey (and bleachable!) slipcovers!!!

I found these at Ballard Designs in a size that should (after careful measuring) fit great! So, on the Christmas gift list they go, and hopefully it'll work out!! :)

Sunroom -- Before Pics

Here's our sunroom! I mentioned in the last post that this is the room that I want to really "makeover" by the end of the year, so I thought I'd show some "before" pics for y'all!

This is also a good example of a room done on a budget!!

(I apologize for the terrible lighting/color of these pics -- it's a horribly gray, icky day today! But this will just make the "after" pics look that much better, right? ;) Humor me!)

The sunroom is at the very back of our house, and overlooks our deck and garden in the backyard. We just love this room! It's a great place for snuggling up with a book, or having breakfast with my hubby on a Saturday!

How did we/are we doing this room on a budget? Let's take a look!

First of all, this room (along with the rest of the house) is ever evolving, a piece at a time!

This is actually the 2nd couch and chair that this room has seen in 1 1/2 yrs. The originals were a loveseat from our former home(s) that is now in our master bedroom, and a wing chair we got free from my husband's former workplace when they were going to throw it out! It has a slipcover, and is in the "bonus room/playroom" now!

This couch and chair we also got for FREE from my sister when she bought new furniture!! Score! I had wanted a larger couch in here, but wasn't going to purchase one. This worked out perfectly. The exchange for my sis? When we end up donating or selling a couch of ours in the future, we give her the tax write-off or $! Sounds fair to me! This set fits nicely with our garden cottage style for this room, but it won't look the same when we're done!

This is the french door going out to the deck. And the oh-so-loverly "playpen" where my puppy stays when we leave the house. This room has a wonderful large tile floor, which can any puppy mess can be easily cleaned up from! Also perfect for kiddo shoes covered in NC red clay after playing in the backyard!

I just love the architechtural piece above the door! I got that at Kane County Flea Market (in IL) years ago. It supposedly came from a house in Wisconsin! The tin tile hanging on the wall also came from a flea market. I think I got that for $9.

The large tree is actually a fake from HomeGoods, and the iron & glass end table bought at 1/2 price when I hosted a Southern Living @ Home Show!

The potting bench-type piece above was bought secondhand, and filled with thrift & flea market items. The Pepsi crate holds my gardening magazines!

This is the opposite side of the room. You can guess how high the ceilings are by the scale of the furniture! The round end table is a cheap particleboard with 3 legs you can buy anywhere, and it's covered with inexpensive white toppers from Target or someplace like that. The other end table is from a flea market, and is the base to a sewing table re-made with a new chippy white, wood top!

The seagrass rug & coffee table I had seen in the builder's model home and I fell in looove! We asked for the rug from Ballard's (on sale) for Christmas from my parents! The coffee table was a Broyhill piece that was no longer sold in stores, but I tracked one down at their clearance warehouse a couple hours from here, and ended up saving a bundle!!

Recognize the items on the round table? Got them a couple months ago at a shop's 50% off everything sale! Seriously inexpensive!! The large wire basket? Wait till you see what we do with that!

This old scale below was a fun find! My cloche fit perfectly on top!! I used a garage sale green depression glass plate and a rusty fairy girl (I may put some moss under that), along with a bird nest& greenery spray I used as a decoration at my sister's baby shower (you know, for the "Nesting Instinct"? :)

This is the view looking back into our breakfast nook, and down the central hallway!

The reason there are 2 little things hung all alone on that great big wall, is there used to be another cabinet piece there (now holding soaps and cleaning supplies in my laundry room!). Ignore that!

Well, this should give you a blurry idea of what the sunroom currently looks like! It'll look quite different when I'm done with it :)!!
